Book - My Best Friend's Girl

Went to Popular to quickly grab a few books that were on offer to help me past time these 2 weeks. Surprisingly, quite a good read. Simple, nothing mind-blowing. But sometimes you need an easy read like this and not always reading the heavy going stuff.

Books

Haven't been reading much in the past months. Cos I was stuck on this book. I caught the movie first, which was ok. When i started reading the book after, I found it to be rather dry. Also, since I already know the storyline, there was no motivation to read on to find out more. And stubborn me intially insisted on finishing it. But i finally decided to drop it halfway.

This was a better read although not as exciting as i was expecting it to be. And just a little anti climatic at the end. But it was ok.

Book - Digital Fortress by Dan Brown

Excellent book, really difficult to put down! It wasn't as technical and complicated to follow as i expected. The story is really easy to follow and it keeps you going until you reach the end. Highly recommended!

Book - Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult

Yet another heart-warming page turner by Jodi Picoult. And yet another story with a slightly unexpected ending. But i didn't like this ending again... Think i should stop reading her books, at least for now, cos i feel so frustrated reading all the way to find this ending.

Book - The Gift by Cecelia Ahern

A simple story about how someone was given the gift of time and how it affected his perspective of life. An easy to read story.

Book - The Magicians by Lev Grossman

Didn't enjoy the book as much as i thought I would. Cos I have always liked reading magical and fantasy stuff. Found this book to be a bit draggy, without as much focus on magical stuff as I would have liked. It seemed to be trying to to balance real life + magic, while trying to squeeze years of the story into a few short chapters.

And maybe because I have read Harry Porter and The Chronicles of Narnia, found this book to be quite similar to the previous 2.

Book - Starting Over by Tony Parsons

A simple story about realising your life prorities only after having a heart transplant.

This part of the book really caught my eye:

"Ever made one of those lists.... One of those bucket lists.... A list of all the things you want to do... before you kick the bucket....."

"The reason I never made one is that all the stuff I wanted was right in front of me... You know, the ordinary stuff. To watch my kids grow up. To grow old with my wife. To be a family until my children had families of their own."

Book - Angels and Demons by Dan Brown

Good read. If i had not already watched the movie, I would have been reading non stop. A little different from the movie, but i still enjoyed both.

Book - Keeping Faith by Jodi Picoult

I've always enjoyed Jodi Picoult's books and this was no different. The plot was quite unique and it kept me reading, wanting to find out what happened. But i was really disappointed with the ending as it was so ambiguous, one that lets you draw your own conclusion. I was so frustrated as it did not answer the question. I felt like i wasted my time reading the book as there was no answer at the end.

Book - The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom

Had my reservations when i first picked up this book. Expected it to be good but serious like Tuesdays with Morrie.

But I absolutely loved this book! So original and interesting. Thought provoking too. Everybody's lives are linked and everyone's actions affect someone else's lives. This was illustrated so well in the book.

I wonder who i will meet in heaven...?

Book - The Shadow of the Wind

Quite an interesting storyline. Though i was so busy, i took a long time to finish it. But the last bit was exciting and really got me going.

Books - Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult

As usual, I always enjoy a Jodi Picoult book. This was a very good read, a touching story, and an interesting insight into the Amish community. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Book - The Object Of My Affection

It was an ok read. Storyline was not fantastic and it got a little draggy at the back. Didn't really keep my interest for very long.

Book - Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

Good read, now i understand the story line so much better as compared to when i first watched the movie. All i can say is that Dan Brown is really rather imaginative! The twists and turns were quite engaging. Even though I have already seen the movie, it kept me reading.

Book - A Prisoner Of Birth by Jeffrey Archer

Good read! Interesting and keeps you going. It's been a long time since i've read a thriller like this. Definitely recommended :)

Books - Eclipse & Breaking Dawn (Twilight Saga) by Stephenie Meyer

Have finished both books, meaning I've also finished the whole Twilight series. Feeling a little lost now as I have been so engrossed in this series, bringing the books with me everywhere I went.

Both books were good reads, better than the 2nd book. And thank goodness for the happy ending :) Something just keeps me wanting to read and read to find out what's going to happen next. Hope to find other such good reads soon :)

Book - New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

Yes, i finished it in 3 days (even though i tried to pace my reading). The story is not bad, though i preferred the first book. Partly cos I was quite irritated with the storyline. Edward was absent for almost two thirds of the book. So i wanted to quickly get through the story and wait for him to reappear so that the love story can be continued.

But I will still get the next 2 books to read to complete the series.

Book - Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

I was totally engrossed in the book. I had enjoyed the movie, being the hopeless romantic that I am, loved the total devotion Edward had for Bella, loved the idea of having found your someone after a hundred years, loved the fact that his every thought was for her.

After reading the book, i realised that Edward was really very well protrayed in the movie. And when i read the book, I would remember how he looked in the movie with every description.

It is a simple story line, easy to read and though some call it nothing more than a teenage love story, i still enjoyed it thoroughly. Will be getting the rest of the books in the saga too :)

Book - Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes

Quite an easy read. The book is quite thick but it was able to keep me interested to finish reading the book. It has a simple story line, nothing heavy or mind boggling.

Book - The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

A truly beautiful love story. It was so easy to read and so captivating, I couldn't put it down.

It was all the more poignant for me because my granny and great grandfather both suffered from Alzeimers... so it may run in my family's genes too! It is scary to think that we may one day forget everything we have ever been through. But I guess it is even more heart wrenching for the love ones, who may not be recognised by the patient anymore. How many people will have the strength and the courage of Noah to continue to try, day by day, to help the love of his life remember again?
