Cousin's wedding

Taken by the photographer and they got it printed out into a card for us. Thought it was a really nice souvenir to bring home with us. And my mum was probably busy taking photos with the aunties :p

Saw this mini Korean star look alike. Isn't he cute?? We later found out that he had mixed Chinese and Japanese blood.

And I really like this wedding favour. Cute deck of cards!!

Book - The Gift by Cecelia Ahern

A simple story about how someone was given the gift of time and how it affected his perspective of life. An easy to read story.

Fast or slow?

The week passes so slowly,
for someone who is working.

Reflections

It's been a month since I've stopped working. Time flies but I am so NOT bored yet! Many people have been asking me what I've been doing during these time. I wonder too, time has passed so fast. Thought it was time to sit down and recall what I've been doing buy going through my previous list:

1) Take up cooking, maybe even a cooking course?
- not exactly completed but I have cooked 1 or 2 dishes so far, which is already an accomplishment for me. And busy baking the honey cornflakes for CNY, which have been a total hit :D

2) Read, read, read (have so many books lined up on the book shelf)
- only completed 2 books, definitely should read more!

3) Take up a short Photoshop course... maybe...
- Not yet, maybe taking up Jap with hubby

4) Source for more products for Babybeans
- hmmm.... not so successful in this.

5) Go meet friends for lunch
- DONE, more to come!

6) Clean up the house, need to tidy up the cupboards
- DONE! But can do more!

7) Throw away any unwanted stuff that i've accumulated over the years
- DONE! But can do more!

8) Pull out my Pilates DVD and start Pilates again - Not yet

9) Exercise - Not really.... WHOOPS!!!

Well, plus many gatherings during the CNY season; surfing the net and playing computer games; meeting a colleague from Australia; going to mum's place for lunch and chatting with her a lot more; shopping with a friend during a weekday afternoon and loving the emptiness of the shopping centre; going to the temple for prayers; attending my cousin's wedding dinner....

Looking forward to the months ahead! Woo Hoo!!

Sunday Dinner

My hubby's first attempt at fried rice. And it was good :)

And i decided to add some watercress soup to the table too. Actually soup is really not a difficult dish to prepare. Just need to know what ingredients to include. With my mum's help with that, it was really simple :)

Sunday Lunch with Aussie ex colleague

Gathering at Karel's new home

Had a hard time trying to catch a pic of camera shy Darius.

Little Darius wants to play too!

Before we started...

After... ok lah, not that much of a mess actually :)

And finally a group pic! Thanks for a good time everyone!

Book - The Magicians by Lev Grossman

Didn't enjoy the book as much as i thought I would. Cos I have always liked reading magical and fantasy stuff. Found this book to be a bit draggy, without as much focus on magical stuff as I would have liked. It seemed to be trying to to balance real life + magic, while trying to squeeze years of the story into a few short chapters.

And maybe because I have read Harry Porter and The Chronicles of Narnia, found this book to be quite similar to the previous 2.

CNY gathering

Let the steamboat begin!

All these were prepared by August! Homemade "lor bak", chicken and chicken soup.

And on to card games! After blackjack, we definitely had to play In-between, which was always so much fun and laughter. The above combination has jinxed ALL of us that night. Very very "xie men". Cos we have to pay double if the center card is the same as any of the other 2 cards. With this combination, we hit double almost every time!!!

A young boy's hope

My nephew : Grandma, how old are you?
My mum : I am 67 years old.
My nephew : I hope you will live till 97 years old.
My mum : Why?
My nephew : Cos I want to have baby when I am 30 years old
My mum : You will be married by 30 years old?
My nephew : Yes, cos I will have girlfriend when I am 25 years old
My mum : Oh, but I may not be able to live till so old.
My nephew : I hope that you will, then you can have great grand children!

For those of you who do not know, my nephew just turned 7 years old two months ago :p

And the above conversation took place entirely in Cantonese...

Little improvements around the house

Our cabinets used to be lined with mahjong paper, which is something I've always wanted to replace. Now they are lined with the pretty and useful cabinet liners we bought from Daiso. Very happy with them :)

Occupation

Had to fill in a form today.

Occupation - ??

I was pondering on whether to put "Unemployed" or "Housewife".

Finally settled on "Homemaker". Sounds a little better? Who am I kidding? :p

Book - Starting Over by Tony Parsons

A simple story about realising your life prorities only after having a heart transplant.

This part of the book really caught my eye:

"Ever made one of those lists.... One of those bucket lists.... A list of all the things you want to do... before you kick the bucket....."

"The reason I never made one is that all the stuff I wanted was right in front of me... You know, the ordinary stuff. To watch my kids grow up. To grow old with my wife. To be a family until my children had families of their own."
