Trying to make reading a habit

Have been spending less time with Aiden these days since the arrival of Mei Mei. Sometimes, we are so preoccupied with Ash that we skip reading books with Aiden at night.

One day, we heard Aiden said that books are useless. We were appalled! Decided that we needed to do something to encourage him to read more so that he will eventually pick up a book and read on his own without us having to ask him to.

He has just completed 10 books. Probably now it's mainly for the reward, but hopefully this will help him pick up his interest in reading more.

Totem

First time bringing Aiden to a performance. He couldn't really sit still though and kept talking to us. But at least he was able to tell us which performance he liked when we asked him in the car later.

4 and a half

And I just realised this is the only time I can say this.

My son is 4 and a half years old and my girl is 4 and a half months old.

Ok, "bo liao"... I know....

Bye bye milk bottle

Last night, I causally mentioned that it is time to get rid of the bottle soon and to my surprise, Aiden readily agreed with no resistance at all.

This morning, he really finished his cup of milk. Well done Aiden!

Sweet talker

As Aiden was preparing for bed, Anthony said good night on his way out and was about to close the door.

Aiden - Who is sleeping with me today?
Me - Mummy will sleep with you today.
Aiden - But I love Daddy very much leh.

A split second later, he quickly looked at me and added.

Aiden - I love Mummy very much too.

So sweet...

Feeling extremely demoralized while trying on clothes to prepare to go back to work...

Me - So sad, i cannot fit into so many of my old dresses.
Aiden - Cannot wear already?
Me - Ya, very tight, not comfortable.
Aiden - Never mind Ma Ma, when I grow up, I will buy a lot of dresses for you that are comfortable.

*heart melts*

Too many (toy) cars

For those of you who do not believe that he has more than 100 (toy) cars. Not forgetting the bigger ones stashed in the drawer as he prefers these small ones nowadays. Accumulated over the years, thanks to all the pressies from the doting uncles and aunties. And yes the parents are more than guilty too!

May be quite a sweet talker too

This morning, before leaving the house.

Aiden: Mummy, you look so pretty today
Me: Really? Thank you Darling :)

And when he noticed Daddy looking at us...

Aiden: Daddy, you look so handsome today...

Sweet talker... very quick to react too... Haha :P

He is such a sweetheart

Last night, both of us lying on the mattress, before he fell asleep.

Aiden: Mummy, why do you have a pretty necklace?
Me: Oh, Daddy bought it for me.
Aiden: Why?
Me: Cos Daddy loves Mummy.
Aiden: I love Mummy too. Next time I buy Sofia Dress for you.

Took me a few seconds to understand what he meant. He wanted to buy me a Princess Sofia (Disney cartoon) dress. Such a sweetheart :)

How to spell your name?

Anthony was trying to build Lego blocks to spell out his name.

Aiden: Make a D!
Anthony: But there is no D in my name.
Aiden: "D-A-D-D-Y", why no D?

Call the Library

As Aiden did not come home from school with any books after the monthly Mobile Library session in school, i thought there was some problem with his library card.

Me: It's ok Aiden, i will call the Library to check.
Aiden: How can you call the Library?
Me: Why not?
Aiden: The Library doesn't have a mouth, or face, or hands or legs, how can you call the Library?

Anthony and I looked at each other and burst out laughing. Kids are so innocent. And yes, I did go on to explain to him that I will call someone who works at the Library.

Homework

So happy to be doing homework... Wonder how long this attitude can last.

And yes, he has homework at N2. But it's only once a week on Fridays. And usually only 2-4 simple worksheets. Good to get him started I guess...
