Texas Chicken

This really brings me back to my secondary school days. We used to go after school and just order one large mashed potato each. And one of my friends would try to squeeze chilli sauce in everybody's tub!

And after all these years, it still tastes as good! Yummy!

Christmas

This has to be the most 'un-Christmas' like Christmas ever. Cos I'm not working, so did not have any gift exchanges with colleagues. Have not been going out much, so have not been hearing Christmas carols over the radio or blasting in the shopping centers.

Didn't set up the Christmas tree this year. And even our Christmas eve meeting with friends is cancelled as our friend is sick. Even then, dinner plans were just to ta pao zi char from downstairs, no turkey, no ham and no Christmas presents...

Regardless, I would still like to wish everyone a very very Merry Christmas! Eat more, drink more, and don't drive if you drink! Cheers!!!!

Harry Potter

Went for our annual GV Gold Class experience yesterday. And as always, we chose a Harry Potter movie. We went in the afternoon and thought we would have the whole theatre to ourselves. But there were about 10 other patrons around.

The movie was good! Better than the last 2 movies. Probably cos they could afford to follow the story quite closely this time, since there are 2 parts to this finale. Can wait for June 2011 for the next and final part!

Singapore's customer service

My friend: How is the picture quality for this camera?

Salesman: If you have read the reviews, you would know that it is good.

If we have read the reviews, would we need to ask you??

Postcrossing - I will be joining!!

The project

The goal of this project is to allow people to receive postcards from all over the world, for free. Well, almost free! The main idea is that: if you send a postcard, you will receive at least one back from a random Postcrosser from somewhere in the world.

Why? Because, like the author, there are lots of people who like to receive real mail. The element of surprise of receiving postcards from different places in the world (many of which you probably have never heard of) can turn your mailbox into a box of surprises - and who wouldn't like that?

How does it work?

First, the short version:
1.request an address from the website
2.mail the postcard to the address
3.wait to receive a postcard
4.register the received postcard in the system

Book - My Best Friend's Girl

Went to Popular to quickly grab a few books that were on offer to help me past time these 2 weeks. Surprisingly, quite a good read. Simple, nothing mind-blowing. But sometimes you need an easy read like this and not always reading the heavy going stuff.

Mum's birthday lunch

Mum's birthday lunch at Tung Luk last Sunday, plus some photo taking at the 11th floor of Orchard Central. It was actually starting to drizzle quite heavily and the winds were getting strong when taking the group pic. All of us were giggling and going "Quick! Quick!" Hahaha :p

Books

Haven't been reading much in the past months. Cos I was stuck on this book. I caught the movie first, which was ok. When i started reading the book after, I found it to be rather dry. Also, since I already know the storyline, there was no motivation to read on to find out more. And stubborn me intially insisted on finishing it. But i finally decided to drop it halfway.

This was a better read although not as exciting as i was expecting it to be. And just a little anti climatic at the end. But it was ok.

Dinner

Dinner! Cos hubby has to work tonight, so he bought this from a pizza store in our neighbourhood in the afternoon. Heated it up in the toaster for dinner. It was actually quite nice :)

Voyage De La Vie

It was a good performance! Our favourites were definitely Viktor Kee (a world famous juggler) and Alexey Goloborodko (a contortionist)! They were amazing!

Though we must admit that it's not as good as Cirque Du Soleil, but we still enjoyed it thoroughly. It's been awhile since we last went for any performances. And it was our first time at Resorts World though we only walked around the immediate area outside the theatre.

Movie - Up In The Air

"How much does your life weigh? Imagine for a second that you're carrying a backpack. I want you to pack it with all the stuff that you have in your life... you start with the little things. The shelves, the drawers, the knickknacks, then you start adding larger stuff. Clothes, tabletop appliances, lamps, your TV... the backpack should be getting pretty heavy now.

You go bigger. Your couch, your car, your home... I want you to stuff it all into that backpack. Now I want you to fill it with people. Start with casual acquaintances, friends of friends, folks around the office... and then you move into the people you trust with your most intimate secrets. Your brothers, your sisters, your children, your parents and finally your husband, your wife, your boyfriend, your girlfriend.

You get them into that backpack, feel the weight of that bag. Make no mistake your relationships are the heaviest components in your life. All those negotiations and arguments and secrets, the compromises. The slower we move the faster we die."

- quote taken from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1193138/quotes

Wendys

We have been wanting to go to the outlet ever since it opened. So we finally made a trip to the Jurong Point outlet last night. It was so small! I nearly gave up but hubby persisted and we decided to wait for 2 of the less than 15 seats.

Thankfully the food did not disappoint!

Definitely recommended:
- Quarter Pounder Burger
- Ultimate Chicken Grill Burger
- Nuggets

Give it a miss:
- Fries were hard and overcooked.
- Baked potato was so-so, i mean, how wrong can you go with this?

Shades

Our friend's 3 year old daughter pointed at my hubby's shirt and said his favourite colour is grey.

Their young niece said that pink is too kiddish a colour and her current favourite colour is now turquoise.

Did we even know these shades of colours when we were so young?? Wasn't everything just red, blue, green or yellow?

Journey to the east

Always love seeing rainbows. And I loved seeing the whole arch instead of just one side of it... beautiful!!

Can it get any more complicated than this?

"There are 3 kinds of letters in Japanese - hiragana, katakana and kanji (Chinese characters). Hiragana and katakana are phonetic representations of sounds, and each letter basically corresponds to one mora (a unit of sound). Kanji convey meanings as well as sounds.

In Japanese script, all these types of letters are used together. Katakana are used to write foreign names and loan words. 1945 kanji letters are fixed as essential for daily use. Hiragana are used to write particles, the inflectable parts of words etc. Other than these 3 types of letters, romaji (Roman letters) are sometimes used for the convenience of foreigners. You may see romaji at stations and on sign-boards. Below are examples of all 4 types of scripts"

We have learnt the hiragana in our Japanese Basic 1 - Level 1.

And now we start with katakana as we start our Japanese Basic 1 - Level 2 lessons.

Wow... what a long way to go!

Movie - Ip Man 2

After a few other average movies, happy to have caught another good one - Ip Man 2! Though the storyline is pretty simple and predictable, the fighting is good. And it sure brings out the patriotic side of you!

How to get in??

Imagine how irritated we were when we went up to the Shaw carpark and saw this! How selfish some Singaporeans are! This driver of the car on the left left a huge space for himself to get out and almost none for my hubby to get in.

Ok ok, maybe i am being too harsh. I guess the body size must be a lot bigger than us... and i am not referring to the car.

Sweetness

My hubby is the sweetest.

He will always try his best to make sure i get what i want. And I'm not just referring to the big things. It's really the little things... When we drove past the pasar malam near our house on Monday night, I mentioned in passing that it's been a long time since i had those steamed peanuts. And on Tuesday night, after coming out from the shower, sitting quietly on the counter top was a bag of steamed peanuts..

My hubby is really the sweetest :)

Inspired

Do you know that Japs not only sort their trash for recycling, they even go to the extent of cutting up their milk cartons, washing them, hanging them up to dry and then adding it to the paper recycling pile?

Everyone in the neighbourhood does it and they all cut it in a standard way so that it can be stacked together and tied up.

Yummy! Especially the duck and the otah, 2 of their famous dishes.
